Celebrating Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary year of his death, Mesirow Financial Presents! and Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will present "Sound & Fury: Music and Poetry from the Bard" on September 14, 2016.
Shakespeare’s work and legacy will come to life in an inspired live performance combining the written word with opera. The concert will feature a performance of several of Shakespeare’s sonnets and letters, paired with Shakespearean-inspired arias from composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Ernest Bloch and Benjamin Britten sung by the captivating Kimberly Jones and Richard Ollarsaba.
“Few writers have so poignantly captured humanity and human emotion as Shakespeare. More than 200 operas have been inspired by Shakespeare’s plays, and we are delighted to highlight that connection with this performance.” shared Andreas Mitisek, COT’s Stefan Edlis & Gael Neeson General Director.
The concert, hosted in Mesirow Financial’s James C. Tyree Auditorium, is in partnership with Mesirow Financial Presents!. Now in its fourth season, Mesirow Financial Presents! has raised more than $218,000 for various nonprofits. “We are proud to partner with Chicago Opera Theater, for a second time, as they encapsulate the goals and mission of Mesirow Financial Presents!. Through their creativity and vision, they consistently leave guests inspired and energized, realizing the power of the performing arts. This is a very special relationship and I know our attendees will be enraptured from the moment the concert begins,” shared Richard Mesirow, vice chairman of Wealth Advisors and one of the Mesirow Financial Presents! creators.
The evening will begin with an intimate cocktail reception, followed by the Shakespearean performance created exclusively for this event. 100% of the proceeds raised will directly benefit Chicago Opera Theater.
