Lyric Opera will present acclaimed tenor Piotr Beczała, one of the most sought-after artists in opera, in an intimate recital at the Lyric Opera House on Sunday, February 25 at 3 p.m., joined by renowned pianist Martin Katz.

The program will feature Beczała singing crowd-pleasing Italian art songs, as well as beloved music from his native Poland. He will perform works by Italian composers Ottorino Respighi, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, and Francesco Paolo Tosti, as well as Polish composers Stanisław Moniuszko and Mieczysław Karłowicz, amongst others.

The popularity of art song (and vocal chamber music) has grown considerably over the past 20 years in the US and across the globe. Many of today's emerging opera artists have bolstered their performance careers through salon-style performances of some of the most intimate works by leading operatic composers. The upcoming high profile performance and program will be a testament to the growing popularity of the art form and offer a revealing look at Beczala's strengths in the realm.

Local proponents of art song and vocal chamber music, like the Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago (www.caichicago.org), present an ever growing platform for high caliber performances and audience education in the genre fans of vocal performance should certainly explore.

Piotr Beczała was lauded in both his Lyric debut in the title role of Faust (2009/10) and as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (2016/17). In addition to mainstage roles in some of the world’s leading opera houses, he’s thrilled audiences across the country with recital performances, which were described by The San Diego Union-Tribune as “an unqualified success…there was no stopping the free flow of glory notes.” The New York Times called his voice “rich, virile, with appealingly dark undertow” and the Washington Classical Review said the audience “called loudly for encores.”

Tickets for Piotr Beczała in Recital are on sale now at lyricopera.org/beczala or by calling 312-827-5600.
