The Neo-Futurists will present The Egg Wrench: 30 Egg Plays in 60 Egg Minutes, a benefit for the Chicago Women’s Health Center, one night only on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 7 p.m. at The Neo-Futurist Theater. Spearheading the egg-themed showcase will be ensemble member Ida Cuttler, who sifted through over 10,600 plays to present 30 of the company’s favorite “egg” plays from its signature late-night show, The Infinite Wrench.
For the past 30 years, The Infinite Wrench consistently features eggs as either hilarious props or metaphoric story devices. To Cuttler, highlighting the company’s best egg-related plays was the perfect choice for their Mother’s Day benefit performance supporting the Chicago Women’s Health Center.
“No matter what your relationship is to motherhood, we all undoubtedly came from an egg. The Egg Wrench will be messy. It'll be about moms of every and any definition, gender, sexuality and species. It is an inclusive way to celebrate a holiday that may feel exclusive to some,” said Cuttler. “This Mother’s Day, we are proud to be performing some of our wildest, ‘yolkiest’ plays in support of the Chicago Women’s Health Center, a vital organization that provides women and trans people with access to health care and education, as well as a respectful environment where people can pay what they afford.”
Tickets for The Egg Wrench: 30 Egg Plays in 60 Egg Minutes at The Neo-Futurist Theater (5153 N. Ashland Avenue, Chicago) on Sunday, May 12 are $25 and will go on sale in March. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.neofuturists.org.
Celebrating its 30th Anniversary this season, The Neo-Futurist Theater is a collective of writer-director-performers who create theater that is a fusion of sport, poetry and living newspaper. The company has created more than 10,600 plays to date within its flagship late-night event (now known as The Infinite Wrench) and more than 65 full-length mainstage productions incorporating its signature non-illusory, interactive style of performance.
