Victory Gardens Theater, under the leadership of artistic director Chay Yew and executive director Erica Daniels, recently announced plans for its 29th annual premier fundraising event, The Chicago Stories Gala. The event will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, celebrating Victory Gardens’ 45th Season, at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Pl.

The 2019 Chicago Stories Gala will celebrate four trailblazers for their impact in the arts and on Victory Gardens. This year’s benefit will showcase two original five-minute plays telling unique Chicago Stories by guest playwrights CEO of Ebert Digital LLC Chaz Ebert and Stacy Janiak, managing partner and Chief Growth Officer at Deloitte. As a civic leader, Chaz has worked to help break the glass ceiling for women and people of color, and provided grants, recognition and support to emerging artists and technologies. In in her role at Deloitte, Stacy has championed innovative thinking and social responsibility, and her work as a board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago has supported their mission of enabling young people to reach their full potential.

​Distinguished actresses both, Victory Gardens Theater stage veteran Justina Machado and Tony Award-nominated Phillipa Soo will receive Victory Gardens Theater Impact Awards in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the arts. Victory Gardens Theater is one of the region’s leaders in the development and production of new work for the theater, creating an inclusive theatrical community, and providing robust arts education to the youth of Chicago. 

​The evening will include a rousing live revue of classic soul with the sounds of Soul Spectacular.

Gala co-chairs are Chanel W. Coney, Rick Gray, Gabrielle Griffin, Patrick Macellaio, Steve Miller, Sylvia Margolies, Lois Morrison, Kate Tillotson, and Sue E. Wallace.

Individual tickets to Chicago Stories begin at $500 each. Table sponsorships start at $5,000. For the second time, Victory Gardens will host a VIP experience for guests at certain table and ticket levels. The VIP experience will include a private cocktail reception with Gala honorees and celebrities.

Proceeds from this event will help underwrite the cost of producing world premieres, providing education programs for Chicago Public Schools, and making theater available to underserved and disabled audiences. The 29th Annual Chicago Stories Benefit will serve as an opportunity for audiences themselves to support new work, mingle with friends, and celebrate the work Victory Gardens is doing.
