Victory Gardens Theater has announced its premier fundraising event, The 26th annual Chicago Stories Gala, celebrating Victory Gardens’ 42nd season. The event will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, beginning with cocktails and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Chicago, 160 E Pearson Street.
Victory Gardens Chicago Stories Gala is tailored to the theater’s dedication to the playwright and mission of producing new works. Since 1991, the unique highlight of the evening has been a trio of short plays written by Chicago celebrities specifically for the event and directed and performed by local professionals. This year's celebrity playwrights are actor Cheryl Lynn Bruce & artist Kerry James Marshall, actor and playwright Denis O’Hare and actor BD Wong, all of whom are expected to attend the event.
The unique world premiere productions are performed as part of a gala evening, which includes a live and silent auction, cocktails and a three-course gourmet dinner. Funds raised through Chicago Stories help cultivate and showcase diverse new works and support outreach programs that integrate vital arts education into some of Chicago’s neediest public schools.
The 2016 Chicago Stories playwrights join the ranks of past celebrity playwrights, including Rick Bayless, Roger Ebert, Jeff Garlin, Phil Jackson, John Mahoney and Brandon Marshall, among other local notables.
